What is an Energy Audit

Residential Energy Audit: Optimize Your Home’s Energy Efficiency

What is a Residential Energy Audit?

A residential energy audit is a comprehensive assessment of your home’s energy usage, designed to identify areas where energy is being wasted and recommend cost-effective improvements. By pinpointing inefficiencies, an energy audit helps homeowners reduce energy bills, enhance comfort, and lower their carbon footprint.

Why Get an Energy Audit?

A professional home energy audit provides valuable insights, including:
Lower Utility Bills – Discover ways to reduce energy consumption and save money.
Enhanced Comfort – Identify drafts, insulation gaps, and HVAC inefficiencies to improve indoor temperature control.
Increased Home Value – Energy-efficient homes are more attractive to buyers.
Eco-Friendly Living – Reduce your home’s carbon footprint by minimizing wasted energy.

What to Expect During an Energy Audit

A certified energy auditor will conduct a thorough inspection of your home using advanced tools and techniques. The process includes:

1. Initial Consultation & Energy Bill Analysis

The auditor will review your past energy bills and discuss any concerns you have, such as high costs or uneven heating and cooling.

2. Visual Inspection

A walkthrough of your home will identify problem areas, including air leaks, outdated appliances, insulation levels, and heating/cooling systems.

3. Blower Door Test (Optional but highly recommended)

This test detects air leaks by depressurizing your home, making it easier to find drafts and inefficiencies in doors, windows, and other openings.

4. Thermal Imaging Scan

Using infrared cameras, auditors can detect hidden energy leaks, moisture buildup, and insulation gaps that are not visible to the naked eye.

5. Appliance & Lighting Assessment

Older appliances and lighting can consume more energy than necessary. The audit includes an evaluation of your home’s major appliances, water heaters, and lighting systems.

6. Detailed Report & Recommendations

After the assessment, you’ll receive a detailed report outlining problem areas and cost-effective solutions, such as:
✔ Sealing air leaks and improving insulation

✔ Upgrading to energy-efficient appliances and lighting

✔ Information about the age and life-expectancy of water heating and HVAC systems.

✔ Enhancing HVAC system efficiency

✔ Installing smart thermostats

Take the Next Step Toward Energy Savings
